An epic ride with SimonC.

When we left Borth after checking the wind the sun was shining and the ground dry so it looked as though we were in for a nice winter ride in the sunshine. As we approached the hills they were looking a little white and by the time we got to the parking place we were surrounded by snow and got changed in the slush before setting off.. I was beginning to think that maybe shorts weren't the best idea afterall!

Riding through the snow made things a little slow to start with as it was difficult to pick out the trail properly through the snow but we were having fun. The bit of double track towards the river was pretty wet with slushy puddles topped by a layer of ice. Some were deep enough to force us off our bikes to walk around them.

The river crossing looked just a little too deep and fast flowing to ride so we had to take our shows and socks off and wade through, and the next sections was a little slow going too because there was so much water about. However, once into the gulley things got better and we were able to ridden through the snow at a nice steady pace. Simon almost fell into the gulley at one point whilst balancing along a vary narrow little ledge trying to follow my tracks through the snow.

We made it back around to Anglers retreat although it took a while to do so and then we dropped down into Artists Valley via 'Als Descent' which was ridding well. The hail, sleet and snow then started again which made the climb back up to the top just a little more unpleasant than usual. Although, i was pleased to make the little lung-busting technical part of the climb as i haven't done so on my past few attempts.

We finally got back to the car about two and a half hours later (the rude normally takes around one and a half hours), tired, wet and hungry but stoked too... What a ride!!
